We welcome many visitors on a daily basis to our Belfast bookshop. You can browse our 3,000 diverse titles – from books for Irish learners, Irish language poetry, our children’s collection and books on Irish history and politics.
An Ceathrú Póilí is also an outlet for many independent artists. We stock handmade cards and gifts, fine Celtic jewellery and beautifully crafted pottery and bronze from some of Ireland’s independent brightest designers.
How to get here
An Ceathrú Póilí is easily accessible via public transport and, if coming from the city centre, on foot.
Busses
You can take the Glider from any Glider stop going towards McKinstry Road. This bus route begins in Dundonald. The first city centre stop it directly outside the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. You can also take the Number 10 busses towards the city centre, or in Queen Street from the City Centre. You can find full timetable information on the Translink website.
Tip: if you are a visitor to Belfast and wish to use busses, we recommend downloading both the Translink (journey planner) and mLink (ticketing) apps.
Driving
We are a 9-minute drive from the City Centre when traffic is regular. Find the best route on Google Maps.
Walking
Many visitors prefer to walk to the shop so that they can pass various places of interest. Along the Gaeltacht Quarter corridor, you will pass many informational banners about the building, park or monument you are passing. From the city centre, make your way to the bottom of Falls Road (Millfield College – you can also get a bus or Glider from here). Continue walking in a straight line away from the city centre until you spot our building on the left hand side. You can find the best walking route on Google Maps.
Relax with your book
On the same floor as the bookshop you can sit, relax with a cup of coffee or try some mouthwatering food in the café / restaurant Bia Loch Lao.
Events and classes
As well as our own events (you can see our Events listings here), An Chultúrlann also run a year-round programme of concerts, classes and drama. Find out more on their website.
